EIFL in Myanmar

Myanmar became an EIFL project country in December 2013, when we launched the eLibrary Myanmar project.

The four-year project, which ended in December 2019,  supported educational change at universities in Myanmar by enabling access to knowledge and building skills and capacities. A wealth of scholarly e-resources was made available to academics and students for the first time, and an intensive programme of training ensured that faculty and students were aware of the availability of the e-resources and would use them. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in Myanmar to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at waived or discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs).

EIFL also provided training on open access, copyright, and supported the creation of the Myanmar Academic Libraries Consortium (MALC).

EIFL training led to the creation of a national research and education portal, the Myanmar Education Research and Learning (MERAL) Portal, which includes research outputs available in open access from 31 universities available, and more universities are joining.
