eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board

Terms of Reference for the eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board


The eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board:
  • Represents and advises on the needs of the primary communities served by the eIFL-FOSS program;
  • Receives and comments on progress reports from the eIFL-FOSS Program Manager;
  • Advises on the development of the program and recommends policies and actions in so far as these are consistent with the terms of the relevant funding bodies;
  • Participates in eIFL-FOSS projects where possible;
  • Assists in the evaluation of the program;
  • Promotes eIFL-FOSS within the communities represented on the Advisory Board and beyond;
  • Identifies opportunities for collaboration and alerts eIFL-FOSS to significant relevant developments within the communities represented on the Advisory Board;
  • Offers guidance and advice on funding opportunities to enhance the program.

Membership of the Advisory Board

The eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board will consist of:
  • The Chair (to be elected by the membership of the committee, and to serve for a one year term; the Chair may stand again for election for a second term);
  • Members demonstrating significant knowledge of the subject areas covered by eIFL-FOSS;
  • A minimum of two representatives from eIFL member countries;
  • The eIFL-FOSS Program Manager.
The eIFL-FOSS Program Manager will serve as secretary to the committee.

Membership on the eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board will be for two years in the first instance, with additional members invited to join by the eIFL-FOSS Program Manager in consultation with the Chair.

Advisory Board Meetings

The eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board will meet two times per year, once virtually and once in person. A closed electronic mailing list for ongoing discussion amongst members of the Board will be established.

Proceedings of the eIFL-FOSS Advisory Board will be made publicly available.
