Zimbabwe Workshop: 3-5 December 2007

The workshop took place as planned from the 3rd to the 5th of December. Everything went on fairly well despite the many challenges that we faced. There were a total of 19 participants from various institutions around Zimbabwe, including one from Swaziland. This represented a 90% turnout. Some of the labs had to be skipped due to the lack of time. In some cases, participants were "driven through" steps involved in some of those exercises that were skipped. Amos Kujenga drove the lectures and labs on Greenstone while Elisha Chiware handled the digitization and digital libraries sessions. Some of the time for the latter was cut in order to give more time for Greenstone activities.

Namibia advanced workshop: 1 - 5 October 2007

The sub-regional advanced training workshop was organised at the University of Namibia and taught by an international expert working with the staff of the coordination centre. The workshop brought together participants from each of the national centres and others from Namibia who had already been given basic Greenstone training by the sub-regional centre. The participants thus all came to the course with some experience and a good idea of what they knew and needed to know about Greenstone. The course was therefore able to emphasize customisation techniques needed to bring the participants' concrete projects to fruition.
