On June 13 2007 Kathy Matsika, Chief librarian, National University of Science and Technology, and head of Zimbabwe University Libraries Consortium presented Open Access: advantages and disadvantages for users, librarians and rightsholders at the Writers, Librarians and Copyright Workshop during Zimbabwe International Bookfair in Bulawayo. She focused her presentation at the advantages of Open Access to authors/writers/academics and users. Most of the participants – writers, teachers, lecturers from local Tertiary Colleges, librarians from universities, Tertiary Colleges, schools and public libraries, and academics from the two universities in Bulawayo – heard for the first time about Open Access and the presentation received and made the desired impact – generated a lot of positive debates.
