Presentations from the workshop Open Access: Maximising Research Quality and Impact, organised by Nepal Library and Information Consortium (NELIC) and eIFL.net, supported by the Foundation Open Society Institute, Zug, Switzerland, July 22-23, 2009, Kathmandu, Nepal, are now online.

Researchers, research managers and policy-makers, librarians and ICT specialists discussed how to maximise the visibility of research publications and improve the quality, impact and influence of research, how to disseminate the research results in the most efficient way, how to showcase the quality of research in universities and research institutions, what are the new tools to better measure and manage research in such institutions, and how to collect and curate current digital outputs.

Open Access publishers from Nepal shared the case studies of Journal of Nepal Medical Association, Journal of Nepal Paediatric Society and Dhaulagiri Journal of Sociology and Anthropology. Strategies for collective advocacy of open access to research results were discussed and workshop participants agreed to work together to set up a joint repository to improve the visibility and accessibility of current research publications from Nepal.
