eIFL.net offers access to New England Journal of Medicine

On October 21, 2008 eIFL.net signed an agreement with Massachusetts Medical Society for a period of three years to offer access at a deeply discounted price to NEJM. You will be able to enjoy 52 weekly issues of the world's most influential medical journal, including the latest medical research, significant medical trials, ground breaking case studies, expert review articles, lively editorials and commentary, revealing clinical images. eIFL and Benetech partner to deliver access to library patrons with disabilities

Benetech, a California-based nonprofit organization, operates the Bookshare.org digital library for people who are blind. eIFL and Benetech are beginning negotiations around discounted access to the Bookshare.org collection for eIFL consortia. To test the interest level, Bookshare.org has agreed to offer a free pilot program to all eIFL national consortia. Bookshare.org will provide 100 book download credits and/or 10 individual one year memberships and has negotiated agreements with publishers to provide these books solely to individuals with severe disabilities that affect reading. They cannot be used for other purposes. For an individual to be served, the participating library must sign the Bookshare.org organization agreement as well as certify that the individual has a qualifying disability (such as blindness).

Bookshare.org provides additional software that uses synthetic speech to read the books aloud to blind users. There are roughly 3,000 copyrighted titles in the Bookshare.org collection with global rights negotiated from a handful of publishers: computer software/technical (O'Reilly Media), trade (HarperCollins), science fiction (Baen) and children's books (Scholastic). Roughly two thirds of these books are in English and the rest are in Spanish. More global rights are planed to be negotiated. Please contact Susan Veldsman, eIFL Content Manager, to participate. Renewal of eIFL-OUP Journals agreement signed

eIFL and Oxford University Press Journals are glad to announce the renewal agreement which enables eIFL countries to access a rich collection of e-journals at highly discounted prices for the period 2008-2010. The agreement adds new titles to those already offered by the publisher in previous contracts, thus totalling 196 journals in Social Sciences, Humanities, Sciences, Technology and Medicine. eIFL-Emerald Group agreement extended

eIFL has signed a 3 year extension agreement which allows libraries of national consortia in member countries to keep on accessing Emerald Management Xtra, the largest, most comprehensive collection of peer reviewed management journals and online support for librarians, students, faculty, researchers and deans. Agreement with Ovid Technologies signed

eIFL has just signed a 3 year agreement with Ovid Technologies in order to provide access to over 13 million bibliographic records in IBSS (International Bibliography of Social Sciences, from the British Library of Political and Economic Science of the London School of Economics and Political Science), ISD (International Science Database by INIST/CNRS), ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center by the US Department of Education), Agris database by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Agricola by US National Agricultural Library, and Medline by the National Library of Medicine. Agreement with Project MUSE® signed

On December 17th a three year agreement was signed with Johns Hopkins University Press which offers access to all collections available through Project MUSE, namely over 350 high quality Humanities and Social Sciences journals from over 60 scholarly publishers. Russian content through Integrum Techno

Extension of IoP agreement
eIFL and the Institute of Physics (IoP) have signed an extension agreement offering access to library consortia in eIFL countries for another three years. Agreement and licenses are available in Members only section of the website. To read more on IoP, please go here .

Agreement signed with Multi-Science
eIFL has also signed an offer with Multi-Science which gives access to 13 full text journals on a wide range of aspects within engineering e.g. architecture, sound, space and aeronautics. The agreement and the corresponding licences will be added to the eIFL web site and additional information on Multi-Science is available here.

Agreement signed with Encyclopaedia Britannica
Encyclopaedia Britannica Online Academic Edition is available at a deeply discounted prices to all library users of eIFL.net member countries. The agreement and the licenses are available in Members section. More on Encyclopaedia available www.eifl.net

Agreement signed with CSIRO
Today eIFL received signed agreement from Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO). This agreement will allow access to CSIRO journals presenting the latest research by leading Australian and international scientists and covering a broad range of scientific disciplines, including agriculture, plant and animal science, and environmental management. A new resource for eIFL countries: Oxford Scholarship Online
On May 10, 2007 eIFL has signed an agreement with Oxford University Press which provides eIFL countries with access to Oxford Scholarship Online (OSO), a cross-searchable library of over 1,200 Oxford books in the areas of Economics and Finance, Philosophy, Political Science and Religion at highly discounted prices. This new collection is accessible for a period of 3 years (2007-2010) and adds to the wide range of scholarly e-resources that library users in eIFL countries are enjoying under fair conditions and affordable rates. Renewals of the licenses for 2008
Oxford Journals, Institute of Physics and Sage indicated that the renewal of licenses will not be much different from the current pricing structure and that the expected percentage increases will be very low. Also talks with Integrum-Techno, provider of Russian content, indicate that the current agreement will be extended with a revision of prices that were fixed for three years with no increase during that period.

Renewals of licenses for 2007
A variation agreement has been signed by Oxford Reference, which besides existing resources on offer (the Oxford Reference Online Premium Collection and the Oxford English Dictionary Online), adds two new collections, Grove Music Online (a database containing Grove Music Online, The New Grove Dictionary of Opera and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz) and Grove Art Online (a database containing The Dictionary of Art and The Oxford Companion to Western Art New). The new agreement with Oxford Reference is valid till 2010. A variation agreement has also been signed with Cambridge University Press Journals, which allows access to over 200 journals in HSS and S&T thru 2010. The new licenses for the above mentioned two agreements will be sent out soon to current subscribers, new subscribers and countries that have free access, by eIFL.

Easier process with the license agreements
We have developed a model, shorter version of a license to be signed by institutions for the products that are made available for free to some of the countries as part of eIFL negotiations. Institutions that have access for free will be asked to send back to the publisher only one page acceptance form via fax or electronically or via post. We already introduced this with BioOne and are waiting to hear from IoP, CUP and ORO that offer access for free to some of the countries as part of the new extension agreements.
