BioOne

BioOne was created in mid-1999 by five collaborating organizations: The American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing & Academic Resources Coalition), The University of Kansas, Greater Western Library Alliance (formerly Big 12 Plus Libraries Consortium), and Allen Press, Inc. BioOne Partners.

BioOne is the product of innovative collaboration between scientific societies, libraries, academe and the private sector. BioOne brings to the Web a uniquely valuable aggregation of the full-texts of high-impact bioscience research journals of small societies and non-commercial publishers.

BioOne provides integrated, cost-effective access to a thoroughly linked information resource of interrelated journals focused on the biological, ecological and environmental sciences. For each accepted journal, BioOne presents the full texts of all peer-reviewed papers (and all corresponding tables, graphics and illustrations), as well as other primary information of value to researchers.

The BioOne database provides timely access to the journals included. For most journals, new issues will be posted to the site before printed copies are produced. From the outset, the database included volumes from 2000 forward. The Arabidopsis Book (TAB), ISSN: 1543-8120, this electronic book is an attempt at a new mode of communication between researchers and a new model for scientific publishing. TAB in its initial stage is a compilation of over 100 invited chapters, each reviewing in detail an important and interesting aspect of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana, with reference to what is known in other plants and in other kingdoms. TAB is available only via the Internet and will be available free of charge. The American Society of Plant Biologists is providing funds for the mounting and maintenance of the book on the Internet as a public service. View and search full-text at BioOne.

BioOne statistical reports

BioOne provides institutional subscribers with reports on their use of the BioOne database. The information provided adheres to International Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC) guidelines and is designed to provide aggregated information while ensuring the anonymity of individual users. Reports are provided in a web-accessible format for viewing, a plain-text format for printing, and a tab-delimited format for downloading. Reports will be provided on a monthly basis, within 5 business days of the end of the month, and will be cummulated annually.

Access to these reports is provided to an authorized representative from each subscribing institution. IDs and passwords are provided at the point of subscription to the database. To retrieve statistics, go to the BioOne home page, click on "BioOne Reports," select your institution from the pull-down menu in the middle of the page, then enter your ID and password.

To obtain a flyer for students and faculty and a PowerPoint presentation for bibliographic instruction, please refer to the BioOne Electronic Starter Kit.

There's a BioOne Help Page for information on linking, searching, help with PDF, configuring your browser, etc.
