EBSCO Publishing is one of the world's leading aggregators of full text journals, bibliographic databases, magazines and other resources, providing quality database products and services for tens of thousands of libraries around the globe. EBSCO search interfaces are designed to interact with other electronic resources held in a library's collection, thus, enabling users to seamlessly access full text information from virtually all library holdings, through a single access point: EBSCOhost (see details below).

EBSCO Publishing offers the following databases to the eIFL members.

If you are a librarian from an institutionm in one of the eIFL countries and would either like to know whether your institution has access to EBSCO databases or how to gain access to them, please get in touch with your country coordinator.


Academic Search Premier - The world's largest scholarly, multi-disciplinary, full text database designed specifically for academic institutions. This scholarly collection provides full text journal coverage for nearly all academic areas of study - including social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, ethnic studies, etc. and currently counting 3,834 full text scholarly publications.

Business Source Premier - Business Source Premier aims specifically at business schools and libraries, containing 2,966 full text scholarly journals and business periodicals covering management, economics, finance, accounting, international business, and much more. Business Source Premier contains full text from the world's top business journals and is particularly strong in both management and marketing.

Regional Business News - Regional Business News provides comprehensive full text for regional business publications (including titles from Crain Communications). This database has full text for more than 50 sources. Academic libraries that purchase either Business Source Elite or Business Source Premier will also receive complimentary access to Regional Business News™.

Health Source: Nursing / Academic Edition - This resource provides nearly 600 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines and with a strong coverage of nursing and allied health.

Health Source Consumer Edition - The richest collection of consumer health information available to libraries worldwide, this resource provides access to nearly 300 full text, consumer health periodicals, including American Fitness, Better Nutrition, Fit Pregnancy, Harvard Health Letter, HealthFacts, Men's Health, Muscle & Fitness, Prevention, Vegetarian Times, Women's Health Weekly, and many others.

Medline - Created by the National Library of Medicine, MEDLINE provides resources on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences etc.

ERIC - ERIC (the Educational Resource Information Center) is a national information system supported by the U.S. Department of Education, the National Library of Education, and the Office of Educational Research and Improvement. ERIC provides access to information from journals included in the Current Index of Journals in Education and Resources in Education Index, offering access to full text of more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 1,000 educational and education-related journals.

MasterFile Premier - Designed specifically for public libraries, MasterFILE Premier contains full text for more than 1,950 periodicals covering general reference, business, health, education, general science, multicultural issues and much more. This database also contains full text for more than 314 reference books, 96,600 biographies, 76,000 primary source documents and an Image Collection of 116,000 photos, maps and flags.

Clinical Pharmacology Database - Clinical Pharmacology provides access up-to-date, concise and clinically-relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, hard-to-find herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new and investigational drugs.

Newspaper Source -This resource provides selected full text coverage for more than 240 USA and international newspapers and other sources. It also includes TV and radio transcripts.

Russian Language Resources - EBSCO provides access to the Russian Central and Regional Press databases (with almost 500 full text journals, newspapers and news wires) of the Integrum-Tehno Information Agency. This is one of the largest provider of Russian language full text periodical and reference information.

GreenFILE - A free bibliographic database on environmental issues, GreenFILE indexes scholarly and general interest titles, as well as government documents and reports. This resource offers a unique perspective on the positive and negative ways humans affect the environment. Drawing on the connection between the environment and disciplines such as agriculture,education, law, health and technology, GreenFILE serves as an informative
resource for anyone concerned about the issues facing our planet. The database contains nearly 300,000 records, full text for selected titles and searchable cited references for more than 200 titles as well.

Support and promotional resources for librarians

EBSCO new tutorials - EBSCO has created new audio/visual tutorials designed to guide staff and/or users through the features of EBSCOhost Web and the October EBSCOadmin release. The EBSCOhost Basic Search and EBSCOhost Advanced Search tutorials are each approximately 5 minutes long and provide a concise overview of creating and refining searches and using the new "My EBSCOhost" feature. The EBSCOadmin tutorial covers customizing profiles using the new interface.

QuickStart Guides and training packets - On these pages EBSCO offers to its users support documentation on interfaces, databases as well as additional on-line support resources. Some of the most relevant links provided under this section are listed below.

EBSCO Technical support - These pages provide EBSCO subscribers with a searchable database including frequently asked questions on a wide range of relevant topics.

EBSCOhost - is the interface used by EBSCO to provide access to its databases. It offers advanced searching features supported by Boolean logic, natural language, enhanced subject indexing and journal searching to assist users in performing thorough investigations of their research topics. EBSCOhost also enables researchers to print, e-mail or download multiple articles.

EBSCOhost can be accessed via the Web from any PC, Mac or networked terminal supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, Netscape Navigator 4.0 or later and Lynx 2.6. By simply providing a hypertext link from a library's homepage to EBSCOhost, researchers can gain access to EBSCO Publishing databases from home 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Details on EBSCOhost features and training documentation are available form the EBSCO web site.

Page Composer - Page Composer enables the creation of web pages based on searches performed on EBSCOhost. In this way, web pages will contain links directly to articles in EBSCO databases. Thus, for instance, a web page can be created for a class syllabus with reading exercises from articles in EBSCO host.

EBSCOadmin - EBSCOadmin is an on-line administrative application for libraries accessing publication services via the Internet. The programme provides EBSCOhost library administrators with a tool to customise their EBSCOhost interface. EBSCOadmin also provides a number of tools to allow the administrator to produce statistics reports, manage authentication, import files and others. Log in to EBSCOadmin.

EBSCO’s A-to-Z service - EBSCO’s A-to-Z service aims to help libraries to better manage their e-resources and provides library users a comprehensive list of journals, allowing them to easily find and link to titles available in databases, as stand-alone electronic journals or that are otherwise included in a library’s collection (e.g. print journals).

Foreign language interfaces - In an effort to make searching easier for non-English speakers, EBSCO databases offer German, French and Spanish versions of the EBSCOhost interface. These are supplemental services for any EBSCO subscriber with no additional charge. EBSCO will soon be providing full-text content written in these languages as well.
