EIFL is a partner in the Beyond Access campaign to convince policy makers and funders that innovative ICT enabled public libraries can be hubs for economic and social change, thereby powering the development of the communities they serve.
The Beyond Access conference in Washington DC 1-3 October, titled 'Local alternatives for global development - rediscovering libraries', will bring together policy makers, funders, media and practising librarians from many developing and transition countries. The EIFL team includes Rima Kupryte and Monika Elbert, several EIFL-PLIP (Public Library Innovation Programme) project teams, and the 6 winners of the PLIP Innovation Award, who will be presented with their award in a special ceremony. Together, we will showcase the impact innovative public library services are achieving at the community level. Conference discussions aim to explore the “how” of information access, and its connection to development across the spectrum rooted in local priorities and partnerships. The event brings public libraries into discussions of development for the first time.
