Representatives of the Beyond Access initiative, EIFL-PLIP Programme Manager Ramune Petuchovaite and Matthew Vanderwerff of IREX, will travel to Uganda discuss the status of public libraries and current government priorities with respect to access to information.
EIFL is one of 11 partners in Beyond Access, a global initiative that is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Beyond Access partners work together to improve access to information, with a particular emphasis on using new digital tools and resources.
The visit includes Uganda’s capital city, Kampala, and four other towns, where meetings with government officials, library leadership and librarians have been scheduled. The meetings will deepen understanding of the challenges facing libraries in Uganda, and to discuss ways in which the Beyond Access initiative can support libraries.
Ramune Petuchovaite will also meet with the National Library of Uganda management and team members, who are currently implementing community development projects with EIFL-PLIP support.
