Frontline SMS webinar from EIFL-FOSS

Event date:
24 Apr 2012

We are pleased to announce the first EIFL FOSS webinar of 2012, featuring an online workshop on Frontline SMS, an open source SMS-messaging software that runs on a single PC or laptop.

FrontlineSMS runs on a laptop connected to a GSM modem, a mobile phone, or an online SMS (or text message) service. It enables users to send, receive and manage SMS over a mobile network. The software can work without the need for Internet access, is easy to set up, simple to operate and free. Users only pay the standard text messaging charges through their regular mobile provider. Libraries all over the world are using FrontlineSMS to provide information to users, remind people to return books, and run innovative social programmes. The webinar will look at how libraries could use FrontlineSMS, with some ideas for really innovative ways to provide information services to the broadest-possible slice of the population.

Guest speaker for the session will be: Laura Walker Hudson, Director of Operations for Frontline SMS, based in Nairobi.

Date: 24 April, 2012

Time: 9.00 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) - you can check what time this is in your country by going to which shows UTC beneath the list of cities. The session will last for approximately one hour, including time for questions.
