EIFL Open Access Programme Manager Iryna Kuchma will speak about research data management and open science, and challenges and opportunities for Latvia, at the OpenAIRE project event at the University of Latvia.

Kuchma will provide an overview of the (openaire.eu/opendatapilot) Open Research Data Pilot in Horizon 2020, which was launched by the European Commission in 2015. The pilot aims to make research data generated by Horizon 2020 projects in eight programme areas widely accessible, while at the same time protecting sensitive data from inappropriate access.

From 2017, the Open Research Data Pilot will become the rule with the opt-out option, in certain instances, for example, where openness jeopardizes confidentiality, security or overall achievement of research goals. Kuchma will discuss the implications for Latvia of the new situation in 2017, the next steps, and how to make data FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable).

The OpenAIRE briefing paper on Research Data Management and other support tools will also be presented and discussed.

In addition, Kuchma will speak about Open Science - a new approach to the scientific process, based on cooperative work and new ways of diffusing knowledge by using digital technologies and new collaborative tools. Kuchma will present some good practice examples of Open Science, and share experiences.
