BioMed Central has partnered with Kwame Nkrumah University Of Science And Technology (KNUST), Ghana, to host the Open Access Africa 2011 conference, in conjunction with Computer Aid International, from 25–26 October during International Open Access Week.
The conference was attended by over 200 researchers, university administrators, librarians and scientists from all over the world. Read more.


KNUST became the first African Foundation Member in BioMed Central's free Membership scheme.
In 2011 KNUST and the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH) implement EIFL funded national Open Access Institutional Repositories Advocacy Campaign (read about its firts results here).
