Open Access Week 2011 in Latvia

Open Access Week 2011 in Latvia will be celebrated with a series of events hosted by the University of Latvia Library to support the open access movement and to celebrate a newly launched institutional repository:

  • On October 25 from 10am to 12pm there will be a Discussion "Sharing of experience and developing ideas of cooperation" between institutions that have already implemented institutional repositories in Latvia. Specialists from University of Latvia, Riga Technical University and National Library of Latvia will join in an open discussion about the exchange of experience  and development of cooperation.   • On October 26 from 10am to 12pm there will be a presentation "Open Access to scientific information and copyright" that will cover copyright and selected aspects of legal relations between author, publisher and fair use policy. The event will be chaired by the lecturer of Faculty of Law at the University of Latvia Mārcis Krūmiņš. More details are here.
  • On October 28 from 10am to 2pm an international workshop "The significance of institutional repositories in research development and availability of scientific information" will take place. The presenters include William Nixon, Service Development Manager of Enlighten - the institutional repository of the University of Glasgow, UK, Signe Bachmann, Subject Librarian at Tartu University Library, Estonia, and local experts. University of Latvia Library is the National Open Access information centre in Latvia within the project OpenAIRE; implements a project „Information about Open Access movement and resources in the University of Latvia” supported by EIFL in 2011; and supports Open Access to information in education and research within the research network ENCES (European network for Copyright in support of Education and Science).
