Kaunas County Public Library’s relaxation classes for the over-60s have been a great success – and participants are asking for more sessions.

Popular classes - relaxation for the over-60s in Kaunas County Public Library‘People are thrilled that their public library is arranging events like this. Interest has been incredible. Many were disappointed that the number of places and activities was limited, and are enquiring if we can host further classes,’ said Ms Jurga Grikietytė-Čebatavičienė, who coordinates the library's BiblioHealth service.

The BiblioHealth service is especially for the over-60s. It offers yoga classes and other relaxation techniques; computer literacy; Internet research training; free access to a comprehensive online health catalogue; seminars in good nutrition and healthy lifestyles, and psychological counselling. The service also encourages the over-60s to register with the health services and communicate with their doctors online. Kaunas Coiunty Public Library has now organized a total of three special relaxation classes – and all have been extremely popular. The classes take place in the library, and each was attended by about 11-14 people.

The only complaints were that there were not enough spaces, according to Ms Grikietytė-Čebatavičienė.

The groups were guided by psychologists from Vytautas Magnus University, and sessions included visualization techniques, yoga and breathing exercising. Participants also shared ideas about relaxation, for example, going for walks and looking after animals.
