EIFL Director receives Hakob Meghapart Jubilee Medal
EIFL Director Rima Kupryte has been awarded the 'Hakob Meghapart' Jubilee Medal for her personal and EIFL’s overall contribution to development of the Armenian library system.
Spotlight on the GA 2012
This year’s GA was held in Yerevan, Armenia and was attended by 71 participants from 43 countries, and 13 publisher partners. EIFL-Licensing update

New agreement signed with Cengage Learning
EIFL has signed a new agreement with Cengage Learning which offers discounted pricing for seven e-resources, five of which are available through EIFL for the first time. The agreement runs until 31 December 2015, and is open to EIFL-partner consortia, and their members, in 19 countries.
New agreement for SAGE Research Methods
We have signed a new agreement for SAGE Research Methods. The agreement runs until 31 December 2015, and offers discounted pricing to EIFL-partner consortia, and their member institutions, in 40 countries.
New agreement for IMF eLibrary
We have signed a new agreement for IMF eLibrary. The agreement runs until 31 December 2014, and offers free or highly discounted access to EIFL-partner consortia, and their member institutions, in 46 countries.

EIFL-OA update

EIFL welcomes the EC Communication and Recommendation
EIFL welcomes the European Commission Conclusion and Recommendation to Member States on the European Research Area, outlining measures to improve access to scientific knowledge to make it easier for researchers and businesses to build on the findings of publicly-funded research, and setting out open access policy objectives for the research funded by the Commission through Horizon 2020.
July Open Access Discussions in Uganda
Makerere University hosted the Consortium of Uganda University Libraries (CUUL) and EIFL workshop “Open Access (OA) and the Evolving Scholarly Communication Environment”. And EIFL and CUUL discussed OA policies and strategies with regional research networks and national policy makers.
e-Health – the first OA repository in Tanzania launches
e-Health is a newly launched digital open access repository of published and unpublished material contributed by government, researchers, academics, students and others interested in health in Tanzania.

Mark Hughes, Head of Collections at Swansea University Library, and Luke O'Sullivan, Library Systems Developer at Swansea University, delivered a webinar introducing VuFind.
Xerte Online Toolkits Webinar: Creating E-Learning Resources
EIFL-FOSS held a webinar on August 16th 2012 on Xerte Online Toolkits. Xerte Online Toolkits is an easy-to-use tool developed by the University of Nottingham, UK, which helps non-technical staff to create accessible, multimedia e-learning materials.
Overcoming barriers to wider FOSS use in African libraries
As part of the follow-up activities from the regional training seminar in Tanzania in November 2011, we surveyed the participants, asking questions about their progress in a variety of areas since the event.

Four libraries win EIFL-PLIP economic wellbeing award
EIFL’s Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) has named four winners of the first Innovation Award – for library services that improve community economic wellbeing. The winning libraries are in four continents – Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
Mongolia library success sparks law change
All blind and visually impaired people in Mongolia now have the legal right to be issued with a free DAISY talking book player following a change in the law. The law change affects some 300,000 visually impaired people. It is a result of intensive advocacy by the Mongolian National Federation of the Blind, and the success of Ulaanbaatar Public Library’s DAISY Talking Books service.
Two libraries win EIFL-PLIP health award
EIFL-PLIP has named two winners of the second Innovation Award, for library services that contribute to the health of the community. The two winning libraries are in Africa and Europe.
Innovation Award for social inclusion - call coming soon
On October 1, EIFL’s Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) will launch its third Innovation Award, for libraries that contribute to social inclusion in the community.
