Hi Renate,
You can simply use the backslash character "\" as an escape character.
For example, if part of your format statement was:
<td valign="top">[dc.Title]</td>
then you'd change it to:
<td valign="top">\[[dc.Title]\]</td>
for square brackets or
<td valign="top">\{[dc.Title]\}</td>
for curly brackets.
