Hi amos,
Infact as I read your mail, I have already done it and it works fine. I
had an idea but I was just commenting the _javalinks_ and it was not
working. My home page is just very nice now! Infact you cant imagine it
is greenstone! I will keep in touch and update you on the progress coz
the people in administration requested to see what and how this one
works. They are very eager.

Hi Philip,
I did have a safe journey from Nairobi by God's Grace.
Twas good to hear from you, man, and to see that you're still using
Greenstone. You see, many people just attend workshops and it all ends
there. They fail to see that you learn FAR much more after the training
when you play around with the software.
It's good also that you joined the SAGreenstone list. You see, the idea
was that the New Zealand guys are a bit overwhelmed with queries and
this African project is aimed at producing African "champions" or
technical support people. The queries posted on the African list are
attended to (mainly) by those from around the region. That way, we help
each other improve skills and learn a lot more about Greenstone so that
we can even help others around us. I just hope you understand what I'm
trying to say. Anyone is free to join and contribute to the New Zealand
list like you've been doing but the plan is to spread the skills to
other parts of the world.
Please do give feedback after you've tried out the instructions. It goes
a long way to help others also. Again, if okay with you, do forward your
response to the SAGreenstone list; I'm sure many will appreciate it
because it was in fact a very good question.
All the best.
Regards
Amos

Subject: Re: [greenstone-users] HOME Page
Hi Philip,
The home page is controlled by the home.dm <http://home.dm/> macro file
in the macros folder. To remove the Help and Preferences links, edit the
line in this file (shown below) that starts with "_globallinks_" and
remove _helplink_ and _preflink_. Note that this will remove the links
from the home page only. Note also that it's advisable to save the
original line before making changes. Infact, the best is to backup
whatever file you are editing so that you can have a fallback if you
stumble along the way.
# home:helplink and home:preflink set in nav_css/ns4 macro files
#_globallinks_ {_helplink_ _preflink_}
_globallinks_ {}
If you wish to get rid of the global links altogether, edit the style.dm
<http://style.dm/> macro file and comment out the line with "<p
class="bannerlinks">_globallinks_</p>" and "<!-- _globallinks_ -->" (if
using text version) as shown below.
# _bannertitle_ is defined in nav_css/ns4.dm <http://ns4.dm/> , and is
either text or
# a banner image
_pagebanner_ {
<!-- page banner (\_style:pagebanner\_) -->
<div id="banner">
<div class="pageinfo">
<!-- <p class="bannerlinks">_globallinks_</p> -->
_bannertitle_
</div>
<div class="collectimage">_imagecollection_</div>
</div>
<div class="bannerextra">_pagebannerextra_</div>
<!-- end of page banner -->
}
_pagebanner_[v=1] {
<!-- page banner - text version [v=1] (\_style:pagebanner\_) -->
<center><h2><b><u>_imagecollection_</u></b></h2></center><p>
<!-- _globallinks_ -->
_pagebannerextra_
<p>
<!-- end of page banner -->
}
If you wish to more editing of the global links you'd need to edit the
section in nav_css.dm <http://nav_css.dm/> shown below:
#######################################################################
# global navigation links
#######################################################################
_globallinks_ {_If_("_cgiargu_" ne "1",_homelink_) _helplink_
_preflink_}
_homelink_ {_navtaborig_(_httppagehome_,_linktextHOME_,_textdescrhome_)}
_helplink_ {_navtaborig_(_httppagehelp_,_linktextHELP_,_textdescrhelp_)}
_preflink_
{_navtaborig_(_httppagepref_,_linktextPREFERENCES_,_textdescrpref_)}
You'll need to restart the library after saving changes after editing
the macro files in each of the cases mentioned above if you're running
the local library version.
I hope all this helps!
Also, please join the SAGreenstone discussion list
(http://www.eifl.net/cps/sections/services/eifl-foss/greenstone/email-di
scussion-list) as previously recommended by Repke and emphasised at the
workshop. This would also help those who have attended similar workshops
in and around the region and are just as new to Greenstone.
Regards
Amos
