Hi Howard

Regarding 2, you can look at the collection's build.cfg file 
(collect/collname/index/build.cfg) to see number of documents and number 
of bytes indexed. If you want to display this in the collection, eg in 
the collection description on the about page, add _about:numdocs_ or 
_about:numbytes_ to the collectionextra collectionmeta statement.

The numbytes value is not a very accurate number - it reflects the 
number of bytes in the text field of the documents. It doesn't reflect 
the number of bytes actually indexed, which may include metadata. So I 
don't think it is currently very useful.
