[sagreenstone] EDITING METADATA SETS

Dear Gilchriste,

I am taking the liberty of copying this reply to
the Southern African Greenstone discussion list
for information and possible follow-up. I only
joined in on this because I was involved in the
ISISPlugin testing and documentation, normally
African members of the list will reply first as they can.

I see know that your problem is other than I had
understood it. I thought that you wanted to
modify the metadata set exploded from CDS/ISIS
but you only wish to add more documents.

Once the collection is exploded, then you can add
documents in GLI as for any other collection,
type in the metadata in the Enrich panel, then rebuild the collection.

The only potential problem would be that the
Greenstone collection would no longer be
identical in content to the CDS/ISIS database.
Greenstone is not really appropriate for
cataloguing and if you are speaking about your
library catalogue perhaps you should consider
maintaining the CDS/ISIS database as the master
database and regularly importing, exploding and
building in Greenstone. To shorten and automate
the work, it could be done with the command line
instead of GLI (see the CDS/ISIS to Greenstone
manual, http://wiki.greenstone.org/wiki/gsdoc/others/CDS-ISIS_to_DL.doc).

                                                 Best regards, John

P.S. Please note that there is a new CDS/ISIS
compatible integrated library automation package
called ABCD
(http://bvsmodelo.bvsalud.org/php/level.php?lang=en&component=27&item=13),
but I am not sure about whether its files can be handled by ISISPlugin.
