Dear Florence,

Thanks to hear your voice too! Setting up the repository is one thing, maybe
the easiest thing, but to populate your repository and to do the advocacy
bit, that is the most challenging!

Thanks for sharing!

REGARDS

SUSAN

Dear friends,

In Uganda, institutional repositories are coming up with Makerere University
leading in this. My university is also following but it still needs support
because the collection online is still small. May be countries where this
is just coming up, sensitising academics would be good as some academics are
not willing to have their works within the institutional repository or may
be just do not understand why.

This is still our work as librarians to sensitize them.

Kind regards,

Florence

activities of eIFL on OA and IR particularly for some of that have just been
added to the mailing list. Below is my observation and view concerning OAI
in Nigeria:
> Open Access Initiative is a completely new concept within the Nigeria
academic community and other stakeholders in research and development. There
is very little or no knowledge of the immense potentials of OA journals and
Institutional Repository (IR) among the stakeholders in Nigeria. For this
reason, there is yet to be any IR in Nigeria. Very few journals particularly
from the field of Medicine have their presence on the web providing free
access to their research findings.

> At the last Nigeria Library Association (NLA) Kaduna State Chapter, Annual
General Meeting in March we had a one day workshop on OA, and we are pushing
for same workshop at the NLA National Annual Conference
