EIFL in Zambia

EIFL has been working in Zambia since 2001. We supported the creation of the Zambia Library Consortium (ZALICO), and through this partnership, libraries in Zambia are providing access to a wide range of scholarly e-resources. EIFL agreements with publishers also allow authors in Zambia to publish in open access in hybrid or fully open access journals at waived or discounted Article Processing Charges (APCs).

Libraries in Zambia also benefit from EIFL programmes on open access, copyright and innovation in public libraries.

EIFL has supported open access awareness raising and advocacy workshops that have resulted in the launch of open access repositories. We raised awareness of copyright issues that led to the introduction of a post-graduate course on copyright for library students at the University of Zambia.

EIFL partnered with the Library and Information Association of Zambia (LIAZ) in a national initiative to build ICT and professional skills of public library staff to enable them to initiate new public library services that use digital technology, and to teach community members to use computers and the internet. EIFL's engagement with public libraries has resulted in innovative projects helping libraries to meet the information needs of their communities.
