The Laboratoire de botanique et Ecologie Végétale, based at the University of Lomé in Togo, has initiated a project that will strengthen the editorial and technical capacity of the Revue Ecosystèmes et Paysages by adopting an easy-to-use publication platform, acquiring equipment suitable for editing and publishing, adjusting procedures and workflows, training the journal's staff and editorial board and developing a sustainability strategy.
Revue Ecosystèmes et Paysages (Ecosystems and Landscapes Review) is a multidisciplinary Diamond open access journal specializing in conservation biology, tropical ecology, botany, ecophysiology, forestry, biogeography, landscape and urban ecology, environment, applied geomatics and agroecology.
Since its launch four years ago (2021), the volume of submissions to the journal has increased, affecting the journal’s quality, technical and operational capacity, and delaying publication. The project will optimize and simplify editorial processes by installing an Open Journal Systems (OJS) publishing platform and additional equipment to support publication needs. The journal will be migrated to the new platform, and journal staff will be trained in using OJS effectively to manage workflows and publishing procedures.
Through training, the project will strengthen the editorial capacity, in particular, understanding and implementing international standards in open access journal publishing. To secure the journal’s future, a sustainability strategy will be developed. The journal will also be prepared for indexing in relevant databases, such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources (ROAD), SciELO, Scopus and others.
The project is one of 30 that have received grant support through a three-year project to strengthen no-fee open access publishing in Africa implemented by EIFL, AJOL (African Journals Online) and WACREN (the West and Central African Research and Education Network), with funding from Wellcome.
