Join this national awareness webinar organised by Botswana Libraries Consortium, Botswana Open University, University of Botswana and EIFL and and learn about the benefits of No-fee (Diamond) Open Access (OA) publishing for Botswana researchers and academic institutions and how Diamond OA increases the visibility, accessibility, and impact of research.
Date and time: Thursday, October 22 at 10:00 - 12:00 CAT
Registration: Please register here to participate in the webinar.
The webinar takes place during the International OA Week under the theme “The Cost of Knowledge” that challenges us to consider the financial, human, and environmental costs of creating, sharing, and sustaining knowledge. As the global scholarly communication landscape continues to evolve, it is important for Botswana's research community to understand sustainable and equitable models of disseminating research outputs.
The webinar will cover the landscape of OA publishing in Botswana, current challenges and crises facing OA publishing globally, including issues related to publication costs, sustainability, equity, and access, and opportunities for strengthening Botswana's scholarly publishing ecosystem through Diamond OA initiatives.
The target audience includes researchers, postgraduate students, journal editors, librarians, research managers, policymakers, and representatives from research and higher education institutions across Botswana.
This webinar is conducted within the Aligning and Mutualizing Nonprofit Open Access Publishing Services Internationally (ALMASI) project that seeks to develop a nonprofit, high-quality, and sustainable scholarly communication ecosystem across Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
