EIFL’s partner consortium, the Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), is organizing a workshop on  Open Journal Systems (OJS) and open science for 22 Kenyan universities.

The workshop will take place in Kenyatta University. It will introduce participants to open access publishing and related open science practices. Topics to be covered include setting up a journal (policy and technical frameworks, key actors and their roles, creating an OJS reader interface and administrative dashboard). There will also be a demonstration of how to publish a journal, and time to discuss challenges and lessons learnt.

Facilitators are Prof Joseph Kavulya, KLISC Chair, Dr George Gitau, Chief University Librarian at Kenyatta University and EIFL Open Access Coordinator in Kenya; Iryna Kuchma, EIFL Open Access Programme Manager; Miriam Ndungu, Librarian at Co-operative University of Kenya; Otuoma Sanya, Systems Librarian at Karatina University; Bernard Shiundu, Systems Librarian at Strathmore University; Dr Wanyenda Leonard Chilimo, Librarian at Technical University of Mombasa, and Arnold Mwanzu, Regional (East Africa) and Associate University Librarian at Aga Khan University and EIFL Country Coordinator.

The workshop is a part of the EIFL-funded project ‘OA journal publishing using OJS for universities in Kenya’, which aims to establish publishing platforms for hosting research output in the form of journals from the country’s 22 research institutions.
