The Ghana Library Authority has initiated a project aiming to transform the Ghana Library Journal into a more robust, visible, and sustainable Diamond open access journal serving the academic community in Ghana and beyond.
The Ghana Library Journal publishes research for librarians, library administrators, information scientists, academics, educators and students with an interest in Librarianship and Information Science.
The project will improve the journal’s editorial and peer-review workflows by upgrading the Open Journal Systems (OJS) journal management and publishing software. The editorial team will undergo training in best practices in publishing Diamond open access journals, digital publishing standards and research integrity.
The journal website will be redesigned to enhance user experience and increase accessibility, particularly for mobile users. The project also aims to ensure that the journal meets the criteria for inclusion in international indexing services.
To advance future sustainability, the project will support the development of a sustainability and governance model, including partnerships with academic institutions and networks that can provide mentorship, resources and opportunities to collaborate.
The project is one of 33 that have received grant support through a three-year project to strengthen no-fee open access publishing in Africa implemented by EIFL, AJOL (African Journals Online) and WACREN (the West and Central African Research and Education Network), with funding from Wellcome.
