EIFL will be celebrating International Open Access Week 2026 with libraries, researchers and students in our partner countries. Open Access Week (#OAweek) is an annual, global event established by SPARC to raise awareness about open access and to call for open access to be the norm in scholarship and research.

The theme of Open Access Week 2026 is ‘The Cost of Knowledge’. During the week, celebrations and events (online and in-person) will reflect on the financial, human, and environmental costs of creating, sharing, and sustaining knowledge, particularly when costs are driven by private rather than public interests. 

The EIFL Open Access Programme serves on the Open Access Week Advisory Committee. We encourage libraries across the EIFL network to take part in Open Access Week, and help them prepare for this exciting global event.
